The Embroidery Sampler, Issue #33, January 2010 -- Cleaning Needlework, Cardinal Pattern January 10, 2010 |
| Greetings! Sew Many Threads to Follow, One Monthly Newsletter January 10, 2010Table of Contents
Sewing CircleFor 2010, I'm starting something new. You will notice that there are now several pages around the website where you can share photos and stories about what you've made. Each month, I will select a photo to be featured on the homepage. So please share your work and you could earn star treatment as a featured artist! The first star is a former co-worker of mine. She shared a beautiful season cross stitch that she just completed after working on it for 4 years. Congratulations, Ann! Grace is experienced at crewel and ready to try needlepoint. Do you have any advice for a needlepoint novice just starting out? She is especially curious about whether to use a hoop or not. Reminder: Subscribe to the Embroidery Blog for the most up to date news and website additions. www.embroidery-methods.com/sign-up To the PointAs I put away the holiday decorations and change which pieces of handwork are on display, I check them for stains or wrinkles. Are you taking care of your needlework so that it can be an heirloom that lasts for generations? If needlework becomes dusty, it's best to brush it off with an extra soft brush instead of using a vacuum. Some types can be gently hand washed depending on the fibers that it contains. For deep stain removal, you may need to contact a conservator or someone who specializes in textile restoration.Words of WisdomGood friends are like stars: You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.Find of the MonthThe first free pattern I will share this year is a peace cardinal designed by Bev Qualheim. The cross stitch cardinal is simple, but it will make a nice little decoration for a card or pincushion. I will display it all winter! You're Invited: Please share your stitching stories, ideas, words of wisdom, find of the month, or questions. Just reply to this newsletter and tell me what you think! I'd love to hear from you. Amy Conaway |
