Sewing Circle

This time of the year is about family, so it's appropriate that this month's featured embroidery artist is my own great-aunt Helen Black. She died when I was only a couple of years old, but her daily bread embroidery is still hanging in my grandmother's dining room and associated with many memories of holiday meals over the years.

To the Point

It's time to work on the Christmas crafts and embroider the name on cross stitch Christmas stockings! After you have it all stitched, there's a little sewing to do to turn it into a useable stocking. Please see my website for Christmas stocking instructions and steps for putting it all together.

Words of Wisdom

"Really I don't dislike to cook, but what you cook is eaten so quickly. When you sew, you have something that will last to show for your efforts." ~ Elizabeth Travis Johnson

Find of the Month

I have two special free holiday patterns to share this month. First, there is a Holiday Cottage design from Herrshners that comes as a .pdf file. This is great for crewel embroidery, blackwork, or punchneedle. And secondly, there's a Beautiful Stitches Stocking from Krenik that uses evenweave fabric. You can stuff it for use as an ornament or leave it open to fill with other treats.

You're Invited: Please share your stitching stories, ideas, words of wisdom, find of the month, or questions. Just reply to this newsletter and tell me what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
