Sewing CircleThe featured embroidery artist this month is Flora from India. She shared photos of a stunning anemone flower that she embroidered on a handkerchief using the crewel method. The petals were created with the long and short satin stitch, and the center is made of French knots.Reminder: Subscribe to the Embroidery Blog for the most up to date news and website additions. www.embroidery-methods.com/sign-up To the PointSeveral people have written to me about how you remember doing huck embroidery in school. It also goes by the names Swedish weaving, huck weaving, or huckaback darning. It's a very easy and enjoyable embroidery method since there are only two basic huck embroidery stitches. The darning stitch is used to pass the thread through the loops on the fabric. The other stitch involves wrapping the thread around the loop to give that spot more color. These stitches can be combined in different ways to create many pattern styles from floral to geometric.Words of Wisdom"The only place where housework comes before needlework is in the dictionary." ~ Mary KurtzFind of the MonthAre you looking for free Swedish weaving patterns? Here's one from Coats and Clark that tells you how to decorate a pillow, placemat, towel, and apron. The vintage patterns were originally published in the 1950s.You're Invited: Please share your stitching stories, ideas, words of wisdom, find of the month, or questions.
