Sewing Circle

You might remember this month's featured artist from earlier this year. Virginia Cole from California was one of the huck towel kit winners because she shared this gorgeous photo of patriotic huck towels stitched with huck embroidery. Great work, Virginia, and thanks again for sharing!

To the Point

Needlepoint stitches can be categorized as diagonal or straight. Combine them in different ways and at different lengths to create any type of stitch you can dream up. Sometimes stitches appear identical on the one side of the work but different on the other because of the order in which the needle passes through the blocks. This is a very important consideration because diagonal stitches can sometimes warp or distort the canvas. Check out the numbered diagrams for some basic needlepoint stitches on the Embroidery Methods website.

Words of Wisdom

"The best thing about doing needlepoint for very small children is that they are so uncritical. They don't say things like, "I see you've missed some stitches over here on the leg, was that intentional?" or "Was this creature blinded in a fight?" They will clasp it in their little arms and love it besottedly, inseparably as the thing becomes more and more rancid." ~ Carole Berman and Jennifer Lazarus

Find of the Month

Here are some fun needlepoint fish magnets for a free needlepoint pattern that you can make for the children in your life. Or better yet, teach them how to do needlepoint and make a fish!

You're Invited: Please share your stitching stories, ideas, words of wisdom, find of the month, or questions. Just reply to this newsletter and tell me what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
