Sewing Circle

I'm cleaning out my supplies in preparation for moving this summer, so it's time for a contest! Whoever submits a photo of Hardanger embroidery during the month of February is eligible to win a pair of Hardanger heart kits. I will choose the winner myself based on how pretty your photo is, the quality of the comments it receives, and the quality of the comments you leave for others.

The featured needlework for February is a mystery embroidery shared by Jean Palomba from Greenvale, New York. Can you identify what it is and where it's from?

To the Point

Beads, buttons, and charms can add extra color and dimension to embroidery. There are different types of beads to use for bead embroidery depending on the type of project you are making. Sometimes they are a detail to highlight certain areas, such as strawberry seeds. Other times beading becomes the entire surface like a mosaic. In this case, be sure to choose beads that are a size equal to or slightly smaller than your fabric count.

Words of Wisdom

Love is the thread that binds us.

Find of the Month

Here's a great idea: Make a reusable love letter embroidery to celebrate Valentine's Day, anniversaries, and any special day. The words are buttoned on and can be rearranged for a return message! This is much more sustainable than paper cards and will become a treasure you can use over and over again.

You're Invited: Please share your stitching stories, ideas, words of wisdom, find of the month, or questions. Just reply to this newsletter and tell me what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
