Sewing Circle

This month's featured artist, Anita Kumar from India, knows how to make lots of silk ribbon flowers as shown in this beautiful flower basket. I like how she chose a blue background fabric so that the white ribbon flowers stand out, and using ribbon for the basket weave was a very clever idea. Thanks for sharing, Anita!

We also had a special message from embroiderer Lynette Hale:
"I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, where we have just suffered some terrible earthquakes - one 6 months ago which was a 7.1 magnitude and the other on the 22nd February this year - a 6.3 which was very close to the surface. This being the case we have lost our homes, have damaged roads, no sewers, drinking water etc. and loss of lives. I am one of the lucky ones with only minor damage to my home but I did lose chattels and have cracking both inside and outside my home which at some time will have to be fixed. We have to boil our water, can only flush the toilet once a day and wait until we have a full load of soiled clothes before we can use the washing machine. Our city centre is almost totally flattened, businesses lost, and it will take years to re-build. Yes, Japan has had a terrible time too but do not forget little old Christchurch, New Zealand."
If you would like to help, she suggests donating to the New Zealand Red Cross.

To the Point

Silk ribbon embroidery has been the most popular topic on the Embroidery Methods website. It's an easy technique to learn, and it produces interesting textures. Several people from around the world have shared silk ribbon photos of what they've embroidered. Which one is your favorite? Please add your own photos and comments to the discussion!

Words of Wisdom

"Take your needle, my child, and work at your pattern; it will come out a rose by and by. Life is like that - one stitch at a time taken patiently and the pattern will come out all right like the embroidery." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

Find of the Month

I found something really special this month. It's a free silk ribbon embroidery pattern for a silk ribbon heart made of flowers. Happy stitching!

You're Invited: Please share your stitching stories, ideas, words of wisdom, find of the month, or questions. Just reply to this newsletter and tell me what you think! I'd love to hear from you.
