Butterfly Towel

by Laura Daily
(Southern California)

I found a partially done kitchen towel in my grandmother's items after she had passed away. I had no clue as to what it was or how to do it. I had never seen this stitch before, but I knew I could figure it out, and I did and finished it. For Christmas that year I gave my Mom the towel that my grandmother had started years prior and my finished product. It was a butterfly, just beautiful! My Mom in turn gave it back to me 25 years later! I still have it! Very special to me! The next year after I finished that towel, I made Christmas gifts for all of the women in my family, made my own patterns of the certain things each of them liked: I did birdhouses, angels, dolphins, elephants, monkeys, another butterfly, birds and surfboards. Such a fun stitch and the sky's the limit on patterns! Too bad more people don't know about this type of embroidery!

Thank you!

Note from Amy: I asked Laura to share a photo. She moved recently and hasn't found which box the towel is in. Please let me know when you find it, Laura. We'd love to see a picture to go along with your beautiful story!
