And the winner is...
by: Amy from embroidery-methods.com

Wow, the 12 poems submitted are fabulous! Some are touching, some make me smile -- They're all all great! I'm feeling generous, so guess what? You're all winners!

The 12 people who submitted the poems below need to contact me by Monday and tell me which ALC Unlimited pattern you would like. I still need a poem for the June newsletter, and that honor will go to Andrea. Thanks again for participating!

Too Late for the Party?
This thread will remain open for comments. You're welcome to say something about the poems or add your own, but the contest is over. Please stay tuned to the Embroidery Blog for future contests and suprises!

Birds
by: djaj

I'm not good at writing poems... I'm knitting the birddancing shawl at the moment, and as English is not my mother tongue I wrote an haiku on my own in French to replace the original one in English. The translation would be:

On the sand,
a message
written by a bird.

Don't you feel like birddancing patterns on sand or snow would be beautiful to embroider?

Unravelling 1940-1965
by: michelle

My grandfather was a traveling salesman
who crisscrossed Quebec with his threads
He went here and there
to distribute his wares
a true blue coats and clarks man.

Well, feeble attempt at a quasi limerick, but a true tale!

Poetry in Motion
by: umma

An ode to embroidery. I give my lips a twist and think.
What should I write about? It's silky smooth strands?
If I put that alone It would be a waste. I think I'll wax on about it's various stitches.
No.
Forget it, I'll buy a brother sewing and embroidery machine all in one.
Let's watch it spin, lets watch it swirl. Pure poetry in motion.
Tuck the machine away and wait for hubby to return.
Look what I did!!!
Ata girl!

LOL, this makes no sense. Hope you get a kick out of it though.

LOL

My First Masterpiece
by: jennie

MY FIRST MASTERPIECE

I began my first embroidery task
Upon a feedsack design
Using a large-eyed needle, wooden hoop and wad of tangled floss.
The stitches were uneven though I did my best,
And I continued pulling out another strand of floss from that tangled wad
Until it was finished.
I have kept it for over 65 years?
Because it was my first masterpiece.

Poetry Contest
by: Lisabee

You damnable knotted up floss!
I'll show YOU who's the boss...
So carefully tug it,
or maybe just cut it.
I give up. This project's a loss.

What Fun!
by: andrea

In and out the stitches soar,
Floss in strands of 3 or 4,
Leaving behind a trail that will be,
Something magnificent for all to see.

Embroidery is a pleasant art,
That leaves its patterns on your heart.
Stories told by intricate design,
I'm so thankful for this craft of mine!

In My Work Box
by: Jennifer S.

In and out
Up and down
over and over
stitch

colour by colour
bit by bit
thick and thin
stitch

tick and tock
time goes by
fingers tingle
stitch

For the feeling
accomplishment
pride...
we stitch

Embroidery Poem Entry
by: Jackie Davis

Hand Embroidery is something I admire,
Seeing other peoples' works, really inspire.

I want to learn everything about this trade,
Antennaes for butterflies is something I have made.

No need to look further, this is the perfect site.
Embroidery-Methods.com is the place that is right!

A Tangle of Floss
by: Brenda

There once was a tangle of floss
So messy that it looked like moss.
It was supposed to be
Used in fine embroidery,
But the knot was given up as a loss.
