Jul 14, Machine Embroidery Landscapes

Today at the library I saw a book about machine embroidery landscapes that is titled Machine Embroidered Woodlands. They are SO beautiful!

The best part is that it uses freemotion embroidery, so you can make these using any normal sewing machine! Wow. This little photo doesn't show how realistic it looks -- please go to the Amazon website and click the cover to look inside and see the photos!

The quilt that inspires me the most is a crazy quilt made by my great-grandmother. I was only a few months old when she died. It was made from coat lining scraps from the coat factory where she worked. She was so poor and raised a family of 9 in the Depression, so it must have been exciting to make something fancy with such luxurious fabrics!
