Long-and-Short Red Anemone

by Flora
(Chennai, India)

I was attracted by this embroidered red anemone design in Trish Burr's Long and Short Stitch Embroidery: A Collection of Flowers. I loved this design. Therefore I decided to embroider it on a handkerchief. The guidelines and the colors are clearly described in the book.

I used a single strand of thread for the flower except for the stems and the flower center. For petals, I used satin and long and short stitches. For flower center, I used three shades of french knots. Stems are emboidered with stem stitch.

I was happy with the way it came out. Hope you will also like it.

The stitching is so neat and the flower is beautiful.
I doubt I could use the handkerchief for fear or damaging the needlework. A beautiful piece to frame though.
