Lovers Hankies

by Ita
(Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal)

This is a "lovers hankies", a tradition here in the north of Portugal. Before marriage, girls embroidered these hankies and offered them to the boy they loved. Hankies used to have mistakes in the writing, and we still do it that way now. This is a miniature, but we also embroider big hankies. I'm sending another kind, all in red...

It's a small picture, sorry! I don't have a digital machine.

Hope you like them.

To Karen
by: Ita

Karen, hello,

I'm so glad you liked my work...
I'm sure there are a lot of beautiful embroideries in Azores, but this kind of work is from the north of Portugal.

I'm sending you a couple of sites where you can see this kind of work... or then you come visit Porto, a very beautiful town in the north of Portugal, one of this days!

Enjoy,

Ita

Where can I buy one?
by: Karen

I just returned from San Miguel (Azores), but wasn't able to find one there. Can anyone help? I'd LOVE to have one made for my sweetheart!
