The modern technology of home machine embroidery allows you to express yourself in new ways!

This 21st century needlecraft has become popular recently because it allows quick and easy personalization. Home machines allow you to produce machine embroidered items for yourself. Now that we have home embroidery machines, reproduction of the same project is easier, but mass production for lots of equal items is still best left to industrial embroidery services.

Two Methods

There are really two types of home embroidery machine work: pre-designed or free motion.

Digital embroidery

These are specialized machines that automatically embroider images or text from electronic design files. Designs are often very detailed, intricate, and satin stitched.

Free motion embroidery

Is directed manually, and can be performed on most standard home sewing machines by disengaging or placing a plate over the feed dogs. Designs are often flowing or used to add texture and highlights over appliqué or pieced quilting or to tack down ribbons. You can stitch lettering with some practice. This method is often used with crazy quilting.

Both techniques are great!
