Needlepunch Thread Keeps Breaking

I have been having a problem with my punchneedles. The thread keeps breaking and it doesn't matter which needle I use or how many plys of thread. What am I doing wrong? I have weaver's cloth fused to a decorative fabric. Maybe it's too thick???

It would be helpful if you shared a photo so I could see where it broke and what the broken threads look like. If the broken threads look frayed, it's because the fusing is too hard and they're wearing out as they rub it. That's my guess at what the problem most likely is. Either the fusing or the decorative fabric or both are too hard.

You could try using something more sturdy for the punch needle thread, but then you run into issues about whether it will stay in place or not. Nylon is more durable than cotton, but the stitches might slide out.

I am surprised you are not having problems with the stitches falling out due to the fusing. Weaver's cloth is good for punch needle because it is woven so tightly that the fabric threads push back to hold the stitches in place, and I would think the fusing disrupts that ability.
