Newbie Embroidery Person Needs Embroidery Machine Advice

by Lori
(Mount Pleasant, SC)

I have been researching embroidery machines, and I'm quite confused. I would like to buy a good quality, easy to use machine that will last a long time. I would love for it to be computer compatible (I have Windows VISTA). The primary use for this machine would be to embroider names on shirts, hats, etc.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Lori, I only do free motion machine embroidery, so I can't offer any first hand advice. Is there a shop in your area that will let you try out and compare some models? Or do you have any friends with machines that will give you a demo?

Maybe someone will see your question here on the website and offer advice. I'd like to have reviews for various types of embroidery machines. Everyone, please post your experiences!

Embroidery Machines
by: Lori

I have been in the business for over 17 years. A good single head embroidery machine is a Toyota. But the best thing to do is find out when a show will be in your area. That way you can look at all the different manufacturers and make a decision from that. Just remember most the people there are sales. Do your research first and ask for a technical person.

Also, make sure you understand what comes with the machine. It should come with a 12, 15, jacket back, and hat frames without question. In this economy you should shoot for even more (an 18 and kids jacket back at least). It will also come with thread and backing to get started.

No matter what machine you get make sure you do the regular oiling/maintenance. This will ensure a longer lasting machine (just like regular maintenance on a vehicle).

Best of luck in your search.
