The Reverse Side of a Cross Stitched Afghan

I want to cross stitch butterflies on Anne cloth for an afghan. I have never used Anne cloth before. What do you do with the reverse side of the afghan? Is there a special way to cross stitch so both sides can be viewed or do you line the backside of the Anne cloth.

Thank you

Amy's Answer
Blackwork can be done in a reversible style, but I've never heard of reversible cross stitch. I don't think it would work the same way because cross stitch has color changes and lots of thread ends.

The best option is probably to give the backside a cover. That could be quite decorative. If you use a nice bright solid color, some will show through the holes of the unstitched areas.

I love butterflies, so I hope you'll share a picture when it's done!

Reverse Side Cross Stitch

From memory, there is a reversible style of doing cross stitch. It takes a bit longer. I think I read it about in an article about older styles of stitching. Maybe if you were to type "reversible cross stitch" in the embroidery search you would find some info.
