Threading the Needle

Do you thread the needle and knot it with both ends together or is it done differently for embroidery?

Amy's Answer
Embroidery is usually done with a single length of thread and the needle loose at one end. In most methods, tying a knot is bad and frowned upon. A single knot at the end is ok when starting crewel. Huck weaving and crewel can be ended with knots.

If you are doing cross stitch or needlepoint, just leave a tail when you start stitching. Do the first couple of stitches, and then go back and tuck the tail under the stitches on the back of the piece.
